Rivers Are Like Life’s Journeys
Rivers Are Like Life’s Journey
By Pauline, Oncol Wellness
Recently, as I walked alongside a river, I was struck by how much it reminded me of life—its movement, energy, stillness, force, and flow.
The river is always in motion, yet it moves differently depending on the terrain—
Sometimes calm, sometimes wild.
Sometimes trickling gently, sometimes crashing fiercely over rocks.
And life mirrors this. We experience calm and chaos, clarity and confusion, comfort and challenge.
Just as a river carves new paths through earth and stone, our experiences shape us—especially the tough ones.
When we fall into life’s dark basins—periods of fear, doubt, or grief—we may feel lost or uncertain. But like the river, we still move.
We stir things up. We change. We grow.
Eventually, we reach places of stillness.
We settle into new ways of being—after a diagnosis, a new career, a fresh start, or a shift in perspective.
We find rhythm again.
And when the river reaches its destination—the vastness of a lake or ocean—it is received with acceptance and grace.
We, too, deserve that kind of welcome.
Let’s receive each other with gratitude, support, and love—just as we are.
